Cleaning Instructions: Cotton

The following Place Textiles are Cottons:

Santiago is produced from high quality unmercerized cotton yarns. The fabric is woven and piece dyed. After dyeing it is washed, tumbled and dried creating a luxurious density and soft hand. Santiago will hold up beautifully to subsequent washing without significant shrinkage. The fabric will get even better with age. Over time, frequent washing will lighten the darker colors in a very natural way.

Pre-washing

Santiago goes through a pre-washing and drying process as part of production so it is not necessary to pre-wash the fabric prior to fabrication.

Subsequent Washing

After fabrication, Santiago can be machine washed in medium-to-hot water on the gentle cycle. A mild soap such as Ivory Flakes or a gentle laundry detergent can be used. Be careful not to pour liquid detergent directly onto the fabric in the machine. Avoid using bleach on all colors except Salt (129-01-01) which can be bleached with a mild bleach solution without harming the color.

Drying

Machine drying at a medium temperature or air-drying is recommended. Do not dry to “bone dry” but rather, remove from dryer or line while still barely damp. In the case of slip covers, any slight wrinkling will be pulled out if the slip cover is stretched back over the frame while the fabric still has a hint of moisture. Light ironing is also acceptable to complete the drying process and eliminate any wrinkles.

When machine washing and drying Santiago, take care not to “crowd” the fabric in the machine as this will contribute to wrinkling.

Santiago can be dry cleaned although the absorbent nature of cotton will cause the fabric to wick up the dry cleaning chemicals and eventually cause the cotton fibers to become brittle.
