Place Applied: Mirage Goes Modern

April 22nd, 2014 by Place Textiles

From its inception, Place Textiles has maintained a laser focus on creating fabrics that transcend a specific style or type of décor. The company offers a comprehensive range of colors and textures that are punctuated by a few carefully designed patterns that work beautifully in any interior style the designer creates. One of the patterns that manages to live comfortably wherever it is used is Mirage from the Place Textiles category of Durable Luxury™.

When asked about the inspiration behind Mirage, designer Kristie Strasen responded: “I appreciate the beautiful symmetry of a classic damask but they can feel fussy and overly formal. When I designed Mirage, I took a traditional damask motif and simplified it. I removed most of the frills and curls – the very elements that make a damask look “traditional” and pared it down to the essentials. The result is a fresh take on a damask look and something that works on modern, transitional and traditional furniture.”

Interpreting this contemporary damask with textured yarns and fresh, new colors also helps to carry the look into the 21st Century.

Below are two very different ways that Mirage has been used. In the top photo, a beautiful Boston living room is enhanced by a pair of antique chairs that are upholstered with Mirage | Dune on the seats and Torino –a stunning linen velvet, on the inset backs. The look is definitely traditional but there is something unexpected about it.

The highly inventive designers at The New Traditionalists chose to combine the elegant Mirage | Violet with a luscious aubergine leather to create a surprisingly masculine loveseat in a style that defies a time stamp.
